In 2009 the state passed a new environmental reform that established Licensed Site Remediation Professionals (LSRPs) to clean up the lingering environmental problems throughout the state. It provided a deadline for all these sites to be complete their remediation by May 2014. However, it has become clear that a large number of sites will not be able to make that deadline through no fault of their own. Rather than have DEP take over the remediation from LSRP, this bill would allow DEP to grant an extension of up to 2 years to those sites who have been sincere in trying to clean up their sites but have not been able to due to honest delays. The bill, A-4543/S-3075 is sponsored by Assemblywomen Grace Spencer (D-Essex) and Holly Schepisi (R-Bergen) and Senators Bob Smith (D-Middlesex) and Kip Bateman (R-Somerset).
