2021 MBP PROGRAM SURVEY
CA TO BAN GASOLINE VEHICLES
NJGCA ON THE ROAD VOTER GUIDE COMING SOON!

MBP SURVEY
You should have noticed yesterday that we sent out our annual Member Benefit Partner Survey to get feedback on our program. We would greatly appreciate it if you would take a few minutes to complete the information. We are preparing to put together the 2021 MBP program and the highest consideration is given to your experiences with the MBPs currently in our program before invitations are made for 2021. Even if you do not use one of our MBPs for any of your needs, please tell us about who you do use and let us know if we should be inviting them into our program. It is important to us that only vendors who have met our members' satisfaction and received high recommendations are permitted in our program.

GAS CAR BAN
We mentioned last week that Governor Newsom in California announced a statewide ban on gasoline powered vehicles by 2023. There's a lot going on in the electric vehicle marketplace and this is something that we predict will ultimately filter into New Jersey as well as other states. We have been working with several charging station installers to help educate all of you on what is involved in the installation process and what the costs are. It is important that this is on your radar for items to consider for capital investment. I will continue to remind you that every one of your customers that purchases electric vehicles is a customer that you will never see again; unless you are selling the charging for these customers to fill up or are servicing electric vehicles in your shop.

VOTER GUIDE
Finally, I want to let you all know that our annual Voter Guide edition of the On the Road newsletter should be hitting your mailboxes shortly. This Voter Guide will be more important than ever, with comprehensive information on all of the federal and a few state legislators up for consideration. We hope to provide enough information for our members to make knowledgeable decisions on the issues that matter most for your small businesses, your livelihood, and your families. Please be on the lookout and reserve some time to study the candidates that you will be voting for.

New Jersey Wouldn't Need A Gas Tax If We Could Pump Our Own (Opinion)
Last Thursday, another hike to the New Jersey gas tax kicked - another 9.3 cents a gallon. Every time I see the gas tax rise I'm reminded of how we could be saving up to 23 cents a gallon if we pumped our own. That's according to Sal Risalvato, the executive director of the New Jersey Gasoline and Convenience Automotive Association. Risalvato came on my show Thursday, Oct. 1 and said if we were able to pump our own gas, there would be no reason for a gas tax in the first place because people wouldn't be getting their gas out of state."At the pump, gas today, based on the cost of labor, would be about 15 cents (a gallon less)," Risalvato said on my show. "And I say in some instances 20 cents a gallon less. So if you went to a self-serve pump, you'd be saving 15 or 20 cents a gallon."

EPA Challenges California on Gasoline-Car Ban
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is questioning California Gov. Gavin Newsom's plan to ban sales of new gasoline- and diesel-powered passenger cars by 2035, reports the Wall Street Journal. As NACS Daily reported, Newsom signed the order last week as part of the state's efforts to promote electric or zero-emission vehicles. Californians still would be allowed to own vehicles with internal combustion engines and resell them. But in a letter to Newsom this week, Andrew Wheeler, EPA administrator, said a statewide shift to electric vehicles would strain California's already-troubled electric grid.

Murphy Formally Launches Bid For 2nd Term As Governor, Will Run With Oliver
Gov. Phil Murphy formally will begin his bid for a second term today, filing a campaign committee with the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission allowing him to immediately begin raising money for his re-election bid. The move allows Murphy to get a jump on fundraising during the 4th quarter of 2020.  New Jersey requires candidates to file with ELEC within ten days of receiving the first contribution or making the initial expenditure. "Filing with ELEC is a procedural step that will allow our campaign to legally begin raising money for the 2021 Primary Election," said Caitlin Mota, a spokesperson for the Murphy campaign. "Governor Murphy remains focused on leading New Jersey through the COVID-19 pandemic and building a stronger and fairer economy for every family."
