GREETINGS AND SAL-UTATIONS!

Dear NJGCA Member:

WE TOLD YOU IT WAS COMING: TOLLS TO INCREASE 50% IN 2010

This week Governor Corzine gave the annual State of the State speech. And boy, was it one for the history books.

As NJGCA predicted, the Governor intends to leverage our toll-roads to fix New Jersey’s finances. A “non-profit, public benefit corporation” will be established to manage the roads and hike toll rates.

But don’t expect a slight increase. Tolls will increase 50% every 4 years starting in 2010. That means tolls will be hiked 50% in 2010, 2014, 2018, and 2022. And to add insult to injury, there will also be an annual cost-of-living adjustment.

I give the Governor credit for being honest about the fiscal crisis in New Jersey. I also agree with many of his agenda items, including freezing state spending, requiring voter approval for future borrowing, and curtailing future spending to revenue growth.

But I CANNOT agree with manipulating state assets to raise tolls a whopping 550% by 2022. This is simply ludicrous. It will only further harm an already overburdened tax-base and small-business community.

DEP is coming. We have received more calls this week. Please make every effort to attend our upcoming DEP Compliance Seminar and gain valuable insight on how to avoid costly DEP fines. See details below.

Thanks for reading. See you next week!

Regards,
Sal Risalvato,
Executive Director
