EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR'S MESSAGE: GREETINGS & SAL-UTATIONS!

LICENSE RENEWALS
ZONE PRICING
GENERATOR WIRING
NEW TRAINING CLASSES AVAILABLE

ALL PIFs…FINAL REMINDER!! PIF license renewals are due before Monday July 1, 2013! Do not let your license expire or you will be forced to submit a new application as if you are applying for the first time. If you fail to renew, MVC will pick up your stickers and you will be out of the inspection business until a new license has been processed. MVC will not be sending reminders. It is up to you to renew. Please send your forms via certified return receipt mail. This will ensure that you have proof, should any paper-work be misplaced.

Since it is at the last hour, if you have any questions about the renewal process, you will have to call the MVC Business License Service (BLS) Unit. To contact the Business License Service Unit, you must dial either 609-292-6500 or 1-888-486-3339. Once the answering service picks up your call, dial the # symbol and “5014” for BLS main number, listen to the menu and dial “7” for PIF unit information.

I know you all were aware that we were expecting a vote on Zone Pricing on Monday. Unfortunately, I have to report that the rug was pulled out from underneath us when lobbyists from Sunoco successfully managed to get the bill off the voting list at the very last minute. The sponsors have agreed to discuss the issue with Sunoco before moving forward. However, there is no question in my mind that this little bump in the road will not derail our ultimate success on this issue! Please continue to be on the look out for updates or wildfire alerts as we continue to closely monitor progress on this bill. We will need your help to get this legislation passed!

Finally, the General Assembly passed legislation to create a pilot program to help motor fuel dealers install equipment necessary for generator use during power outages. Under the legislation, the state Office of Emergency Management would establish a two-year pilot program providing no-interest loans to gas stations located on or within a half-mile of an evacuation route approved by the office. The no-interest loans would be used to help the fuel dealers pay the cost of installing appropriate wiring, including a transfer switch, capable of providing electrical power to enable the station's fuel pumps, dispensing equipment, safety systems and payment acceptance equipment when connected to an alternative power generator. The loans would bear zero interest and have a term that does not exceed 10 years. Loans could not exceed $10,000. This program is for the wiring hookups only, not the generators

The companion legislation was also introduced in the Senate this week. It should be heard once the Legislature gets back into session in the fall. Once the bill passes the Senate, it will go to the Governor's desk, and should be signed before January 1, 2014. The bill goes into effect 7 months after the date it is signed into law, so we can expect to start seeing these loans being distributed in approximately July 2014.  Since it is not law yet, I do not have the details as to how the program will be administered or applied for.  Stay tuned.

Lastly this week, please note that we have scheduled a new Emission Inspector Training class for anyone who is interested.  This is the class required to be licensed by the state and is specially tailored for NJGCA members.  See full details below, complete the registration form, and return it to our office.  Please feel free to reach out to Debbie Hill with any questions at 973-376-0066.

Thanks for reading – See you next week!

Regards,
Sal Risalvato
Executive Director

NEWS AROUND THE STATE: THE NEWS YOU SHOULD KNOW

06/27/2013:
Weekly jobless claims down; personal income and spending up
On Thursday the government reported more positive signs for the economic recovery, as initial jobless claims dropped last week and consumers' personal income and spending rose in May. The new data indicates that economic growth is rebounding in the second quarter, after a weak first three months of the year. Last week, Federal Reserve officials also expressed optimism about the economy and indicated they would start tapering their bond-buying stimulus program later this year.

06/25/2013:
In a historic first, the F.D.A. Rejects New Tobacco Products
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced on Tuesday that for the first time it had begun exercising its power to regulate cigarettes and other tobacco products, an authority it was given under a 2009 law supported by President Obama. Agency officials said they authorized the sale of two new products -- both of them Newport cigarettes made by the Lorillard Tobacco Company -- and rejected four others. Before the law, cigarettes were manufactured without any federal regulation. Instead, states decided where and how tobacco products would be sold, but had no authority over the ingredients they contained. Now, the FDA decides which new products can be sold. In addition to cigarettes, the agency’s authority covers loose rolling tobacco, chewing tobacco and snuff.

06/21/2013:
N.J. signs contract for private firm to take over parts of state lottery
Despite months of protest from union leaders and Democratic lawmakers, New Jersey is the third state in the US to hire a private firm to help run the lottery. The state announced on Friday that it signed a 15-year contract for Northstar New Jersey to manage the lottery’s sales and marketing branches. Under the deal, Northstar has promised to bring New Jersey at least $1.42 billion in lottery revenue of the next 15 years. The firm would keep 5 percent of the increases if it meets its goals. Northstar will officially begin its tenure Oct. 1. Governor Christie has the authority to end the deal if the firm fails to increase revenue for two years.

06/18/2013:
Opinion: We Will Not Run Out of Fossil Fuels
The author of this piece, Jeffrey Rissman, is a policy analyst at Energy Innovation: Policy and Technology.  He posits that even if no more fossil fuels were discovered or deemed extractable, our nations already possess far more reserves and recoverable resources worldwide than we can burn without destroying the climate. Rissman's central argument is that if we continue to rely heavily on fossil fuels for our energy supply, climate-change related damages will become very severe long before there is any real pressure on our fossil fuel supply. A transition to a clean energy economy cannot be motivated by a scarcity of fossil fuels -- it must be driven by a concerted effort to keep the climate livable and healthy.

MEMBER BENEFIT PARTNER MESSAGE

TMP Energy Solutions
Another Way to Save on Your Energy Bills

We have had a number of NJGCA members successfully reduce their rate per kWh   signing up through our energy saving program. We know it’s difficult to collect 12 months worth of previous electric bills to get an “accurate” analysis when comparing a variable rate to a fixed rate, but we now have another option available.

This new solution is a power purchase option; the other program is still in full force and has saved members thousands of dollars. If you sign up for the power purchase option, you will be grouped with other NJGCA members until the minimum KW demand is acquired. By pooling the member’s usage together, you will be able to take advantage, as large energy users do, and receive a lower kWh rate.

Each member will receive their own contract. Each member is responsible to sign and return the agreement the day it is received in order to secure the price for their group.

Please do your due diligence, so when you receive the proposal and the agreement you will be able to make an intelligent decision.

If by chance, you still want us to assess you bills, to give you a price to compare, we will require12 months of your most recent utility bills.

There are no bills required, but we would still like to have one bill per meter on file to check account #’s, meter #’s  service addresses and other pertinent information incase there is a problem.

The term of the agreement is for 12 months. During this term period, you will have price protection against any energy price increases along with a low fixed kWh rate.

If you are interested in becoming part of this power purchase option, please contact Greg Cannon at the NJGCA.

Remember when you sign up your energy through the NJGCA Energy Program, TMP makes a considerable donation to the NJGCA Scholarship Fund through their proceeds. This has no affect on your rate, and costs you nothing out of pocket.

We hope to help hundreds of NJGCA members reduce their utility costs by participating in this and our other cost reduction programs.  Our purpose, in the endeavor, is to help NJGCA members lower their energy costs while supporting the NJGCA Scholarship Fund

Contact GREG CANNON at 973-376-0066 or email Greg at greg@njgca.org. Mention that you are interested in saving money on your energy bills. NJGCA & TMP Energy Solutions will handle all the rest.

POLITICAL PARTICIPATON: THE NJGCA PAC

DEFENDING OUR MEMBERS.
PROTECTING YOUR INTERESTS.
ANSWER THE CALL & CONTRIBUTE TODAY!!

Promoting our agenda in Trenton is of utmost importance to NJGCA and our members.

However, in order to truly affect the debate, we must ensure our friends in the Legislature are re-elected. It is for this reason that your Association has established the NJGCA PAC.

For too long, the weight of funding our Political Action Committee, the arm of the Association responsible for political donations, has rested upon a few. This is not only unfair to those few members who have shouldered this burden, but means we are not utilizing our full strength to affect the debate in Trenton.

To truly understand the importance of supporting our allies, consider our successes in Trenton:

We defeated BELOW COST SELLING
We made history in getting FIRST RIGHT OF REFUSAL signed into law!
We have built large support for RIGHT TO REPAIR and got it passed out of the Assembly
We defended your small business against the false accusations of Attorney General Anne Milgram
We gained wide support to move New Jersey to an all PIF Inspection System and close the CIF lanes
...and MUCH MORE!!

In each instance, we achieved these goals with the help of our friends in the Legislature!

If every member contributes just $100.00 we will be able to provide the help necessary to ensure victory for our allies.

PLEASE SEND YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS TO:
NJGCA PAC
66 Morris Avenue
Springfield, NJ 07081
Please make your donation payable to NJGCA PAC

I understand that times are tough for all NJGCA members, but this is just as important as any battle we have fought in the past.

We have made great progress in Trenton.  I hope that you will answer the call.
