GREETINGS AND SAL-UTATIONS!

Dear NJGCA Member:

I'm pleased with the response the Road Warrior has generated among our members. Overall, the feedback has been positive and I encourage you to continue offering suggestions and input on how we can improve this newsletter.

However, I am still concerned that either some members have not gotten their email addresses to us or they don't have an email address at all. If you know of members who fall into these two categories, please have them contact us so that we can assist them in getting this newsletter and other important information.

We started our Fall Member Dinner Meetings this past Tuesday for Bergen and Hudson Counties. I am pleased to report that it was very successful. We had a good turnout and got some valuable information to our members.

I encourage all members to see our upcoming meeting schedule below. Please attend your local county meeting!

I recently attended a joint meeting with the DEP and MVC to discuss the new Inspection/Maintenance Program. I specifically inquired as to how this change in administration will affect the Private Inspection Facilities (PIFs) and Emission Repair Facilities (ERFs) among our membership. We have invited MVC officials to attend our Fall Member Meetings to update you directly on this topic. Please take a look below to see what we have to report thus far.

As always, please visit our newly designed website for additional news and information.

Regards,
Sal Risalvato,
Executive Director

9/19/2007:
Will gasoline retailers and automotive service small businesses feel the results of commuters deciding to work from home? Less driving = Less miles = Less sales
Small businesses and retailers who rely on commuters and motorists for their economical survival may be harmed by the popular trend of ?telecommuting?; a growing phenomenon that allows employees to work from home and avoid rush-hour travel.

Key economic indicators predict that the federal government will further cut interest rates and reduce fears of inflation, on news that August wholesale gasoline and energy prices dropped by 1.4% and 6.6% respectively.

NEW INSPECTION UPDATE

NJGCA recently sat down with key DEP and MVC officials to get an update on who will administer the State?s Inspection/Maintenance Program and how it will affect PIFs and ERFs.

After much delay and a number of extensions by interested parties, the final Request For Proposal (RFP) period is coming to a close. Final bids are to be in by October 16th.

While specific details are still open until the new contractor is chosen, PIFs and ERFs can expect the required equipment to be considerably less costly than in the previous program. Dynamometer testing will no longer be required.

We will continue to keep you informed as more details emerge.
