THE DETAILS

As you know, Exxon and Shell are moving to divest themselves of their stations in New Jersey.  But rather than give current lessees the chance to purchase their locations, Big Oil is looking to package these stations together and sell them to large distributors.

In the past, many lessees were treated unfairly after ownership of the property changed hands and were eventually driven out of business.  There are plenty of instances out there to draw examples from.

This must not be allowed to happen again!

As YOUR small business advocates in Trenton, NJGCA has been working diligently to get a “First Right of Refusal” bill introduced into the Legislature – AND WE HAVE SUCCEEDED!

Thanks to the efforts of Team NJGCA, First Right of Refusal legislation has been introduced in Trenton!

The bill exists in the Senate as S-2553 and in the General Assembly as A-3726.

But that’s not all!  Only days after being introduced, S-2553 will be heard before the Senate Commerce Committee on THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 26, 2009!!

All small business owners have a stake seeing First Right of Refusal becoming law in New Jersey -- No matter if you are a Lessee, an owner, or whatever brand you sell!

After years of effort and investment, every small business owner deserves the opportunity to purchase their location -- NOT to have the rug pulled out from under them!

What’s more, if a small handful of mega-distributors are allowed to control huge chunks of the market, they will have the ability to not only drive current lessees from their business, but possibly unfairly influence the rest of the retail market as well.

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO

JOIN US IN TRENTON & REACH OUT TO LEGISLATORS COME TO TRENTON THURSDAY!!

ALL lessee dealers who hope someday to own their location, MUST Be there to tell Legislators how important this legislation is to your family and your employees.   You MUST explain how you’ve invested in your business and deserve the chance to own your location before Big Oil sells it out from under you!
